Discover the natural skin care uses of milk with British brand the Dartmoor Soap company.

Did you know that raw milk is good for your skin? It is rich in B-vitamins, alpha hydroxy acids (a compound often used in skincare products due to its exfoliating properties), calcium and other potent antioxidants. All these properties help nourish skin cells and keep the skin moisturized all day. If you've got acne-prone skin, it will help gently exfoliate and gradually cure your acne. For oily skin, use it to draw out excess sebum from within skin pores and to tighten large pores. So, raw milk actually has a number of skin benefits! For more information on the types of beneficial vitamins in raw milk, click here:

Important: Before using any raw milk methods on your skin, make sure you’re not allergic to milk. Also, make sure you use milk from grass-fed cows for the best results and to avoid irritation and breakouts.

Natural Face Cleanser

Raw milk is a really good natural facial cleanser. It helps exfoliate gunk from within clogged pores, preventing further blackheads, acne and general spots.

  1. Dab the raw milk all over your clean face.
  2. Using a clean cotton ball or washcloth, gently massage the milk over your skin in a gentle circulatory motion.

You'll be surprised to see how much dirt you'll be wiping off with the cotton ball. Do this every day for a clean grease-free face.

Moisturizer

If you suffer from dry and flaky skin, this simple home remedy will soften skin and remove dead skin cells.

  • Dip a cotton ball in cold raw milk and dab all over your areas of dry skin.
  • Allow it to sit for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Whilst the mask of raw milk is drying up, try not to move your face muscles as you may stretch the mask and cause fine lines.
  • Wash off with cool water.

Your skin will be moisturized and soft throughout the whole day!

Exfoliator

Beta hydroxy is a lactic acid, a form of alpha hydroxy acid found in raw milk. This mildly scourges excess dead cells off the skin's surface, revealing the soft, fresh skin underneath.

Use a raw milk and oatmeal face scrub to gently scour off impurities like excess dead cells, sebum, dirt and pollution from deep within your skin pores.

  1. Combine 1 tablespoon of ground oatmeal and 1 tablespoon of raw milk and mix together well.
  2. Apply to your clean face using your fingertips and massage gently in a circular motion.
  3. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse off with cool water and pat dry.

Exfoliating Bath

Cleopatra, the ancient Egyptian queen, was renowned for her beauty milk baths for soft supple skin.

Milk baths will not only soften and exfoliate your skin but will also protect your skin and soothe skin inflammatory conditions such as eczema. The lactic acid will help dissolve inactive protein and breakdown dead cells, thereby exfoliating skin cells. The protein and fat will lubricate and soften rough skin, solving dryness.

It may seem a little extreme filling an entire bath with milk, but don’t worry, we’re suggesting mixing it in with the bathwater! Add about 5 cups of raw milk, 1/2 cup of honey and 5 drops of your favourite essential oils to a tub containing warm water for baby soft skin.

Acne Treatment

Milk is a powerhouse of vitamins for good skin, such as vitamin A, which solves dry skin. But what about acne? Raw milk also works wonders for acne-prone skin.

It not only cleanses the skin of excess oils and dirt that clog pores, but also contains lactic acid, which fights off microbes that are responsible for it.

Dab the raw milk onto your clean face, especially on your acne-infected areas to gradually terminate pimples without leaving acne scars.

Softening Foot Soak

This homemade foot soak will not only soften cracked heels but also relax your feet and relieve any tension and pain.

  1. Soak your feet in a warm milk bath containing 2 cups milk and 4 cups water.
  2. Rub your cracked heels with a pumice stone and dry them with a towel.

The end result will be your feet and toes feeling super soft and moisturized.

Soothing Sunburned and Inflamed Skin

Use a cotton ball or a soft washcloth dipped in cold milk to soothe and relieve sunburns. Milk creates a thin protein film that protects skin and cools off burning sensations.

Use whole fat milk for sunburn as it contains healthy fat that soothes skin and also lubricates it.
