5 ways to embrace the British autumn this year.
As the weather begins to change we get excited for all the comforts that the new season brings. From brisk walks and falling leaves to warm drinks and crackling pub fires is there anything cosier than Autumn? Along with joy this season can bring its own set of challenges. Keep reading to discover our top tips on how to embrace the Autumn in Britain.
1. Be Kind To Skin
As the weather grows colder, many of us neglect our skin and fall behind with our regular skincare routine. This is the time of year where (arguably) your skin needs you the most as the combination of centrally heated interiors and cold outdoors can quickly dry out skin.
Invest in a good face moisturiser – we love Shiseido’s Essential Energy Moisturising Gel Cream that revives dull skin.
For body moisturisers, look no further than Neal’s Yard range of Body Creams that will soften your skin down to the core.
2. Have A Treat
There is so much to be said for cosy evenings in. Take some time out to cook yourself a delicious dinner - our favourite autumnal classic is butternut squash soup with chilli and crème fraiche for a nourishing kick.
Soak away your stress with a nice bubble bath and then snuggle up in your favourite cashmere loungewear for an evening that will protect and nurture body, mind and soul.
3. Layer Up
Our first tip is to layer, layer, layer! British weather is notoriously unpredictable, and we often see sunny days through October and November that are also deceptively chilly. Layering is always the answer to make sure you can easily adjust to changing temperatures and cashmere is the perfect material to take you through. It’s super soft and delicate to the touch but weighty enough to protect against the chill and keep you feeling snuggly.
A roll neck poncho will protect the neck area where many of us feel the cold a little more –our cashmere ponchos are non-crease and machine-washable designed to make life that little bit easier. A longer line cardi is another cashmere loungewear essential that is feminine, comfortable and warm enough to take you all the way through the autumn and winter months.
4. Enjoy the Great British Classics
If you do fancy venturing out to enjoy the best that this season has to offer, we suggest heading over to London’s Kenwood House – one of the Bonsoir team’s best-loved places. This beautiful English Heritage site sits in 12 vast acres of landscaped gardens while the house itself boasts handsome interiors and a world-class art collection inside the including original paintings from Rembrandt, Turner and Vermeer.
Complete your day with a hearty pub dinner and drinks by the fireplace at the 16th-century Spaniards Inn, one of the greatest and most historic British locals.
5. Get Away From It All
The Great British countryside really comes into its own during the autumn months and we love to escape the bright lights of London for the magnificent landscape views down the road in the New Forest.
Embrace the perfect peace and vibrant colours bathed in the amber light of autumn with a long walk or cycle ride through the ancient woodland. Visit the historic hamlet at Buckler’s Hard and enjoy one of the many events at Beaulieu.
Make a weekend of it and spend a relaxing Sunday in one of the many spa hotels across the region. Relax with a cosy night in (don’t forget to pack your most luxurious pyjamas).
For another wonderful autumn escape away from the city, Hever Castle in Kent is even more magical at this time of year as the Boston Ivy that covers the front of the castle transforms into passionate shades of red.
Take the self-guided trail around the lake to discover the waterfall, Japanese Teahouse and World War II Pillboxes set against the dreamy autumnal backdrops then take a wander through the mazes before enjoying a traditional afternoon tea served in the Anne Boleyn Wing overlooking the orchard. For an authentic British experience, it doesn’t get better than this.
