MEET CLAIRE DE QUÉNETAIN

Discover the inspiration behind our new season Abstract Print collection.  Designed by acclaimed illustrator Claire De Quénetain.

Discover The COLLECTION

This season we've added a new unique print to our women's brushed cotton range.  Designed in collaboration with graphic artist Claire De Quénetain the Abstract Print is a whimsical take on the Autumn season.  Keep reading to discover the inspiration behind this playful new print in our interview with the designer.

1.  How did you first get into illustration?

I always loved to paint and draw ever since I was very young, but I started to paint on fabrics and create patterns when I was studying at the Royal College of Art. It was such a joy that I haven't stopped practicing it since then.

2. What is your inspiration behind the abstract design print?

The idea was to look at the movement of leaves flying in the air to fit with the autumnal theme of the collection as a whole.

3. Where do you find inspiration and what is your creative process?

I am especially inspired by gardens. There is something special about the atmosphere created by the interplay between nature and architecture. Sometimes I feel as if I am stepping into a magical environment when I am in a really stunning garden.

4. What’s the most rewarding thing about your work?

All my collaborations and the inspiring people I get to work with.

5. Who is the most inspirational person in your life?

That's a difficult question, there are many creative people that I admire for their work and the lifestyles that they have created.  I can’t pick just one.

6. Favourite or dream holiday destination?

In Normandy or in the countryside in Denmark.

7. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

From my Head Tutor at the Royal college of Art, she explained that repeat pattern is about movement and colour. From that time my way of working has been much clearer and more focused.

8.     How do you relax at the end of a long day?

At the end of the day when the girls are in bed I can finally relax.  I put on my very soft and warm Bonsoir of London pyjamas.  It's the first time that I have had such beautiful nightwear and I feel very special wearing it every evening. Then I read a book or a magazine in a cosy armchair in the living room.  The perfect end to the day.
