BONSOIR | TOP TIPS
We spoke to holistic wellness coach Lisa Blane about how you can introduce detoxing into your daily routine.
Did you know that your body has its own internal detoxification mechanism? It’s combined of small interconnected systems, all of which play a significant role in the body detoxification process: the intestines, the lymphatic system, the lungs, as well as your skin. There are however three critical organs which we should be taking an extra care of that are involved in the daily cleansing process:
• Liver is acting as the first line of defence against the build-up of toxins. It is like a filter preventing toxic substances from passing into your blood stream.
• Colon also known as the gut. It’s full of bacteria that produce healthy and unhealthy bacteria, and since we will all carry both throughout our lives it’s important to maintain a healthy gut flora with the right nutrition and an adequate daily water intake since its main function is to flush out the toxic chemicals.
• Kidneys are constantly filtering your blood and getting rid of toxins in the form of urine.
5 SIMPLE WAYS TO HELP YOUR BODY DETOX NATURALLY:
1. DRINK MORE WATER
Drinking water is essential. Not only does it transport vitamins and minerals throughout the body, drinking water is by far one of the most important daily habits. H2O is not only cleansing, it also helps your digestive system, prevents from nausea and heartburn.
2. IMPROVE YOUR DIET
Fruits and vegetables have a high-water content and contain minerals as well as vitamins which help remove toxins from your body. Consider adding more vegetables containing chlorophyll to your diet, such as spinach and kale. Due to its cleansing qualities and increased oxygenation, chlorophyll can help you remove harmful impurities, balance pH levels and strengthen the immune system. Omega 3, avocado and flax seeds will enhance your digestive process leading to a healthier body. Increase your fibre as it plays a big part in your wellness and contributes to the removal of toxins.
3. SWEAT IT OUT
Detox baths with Epsom salts can help you to remove toxins through the skin in the process of sweating. Sauna and steam are beneficial for this as well if you have access to such facilities.
4. BODY MASSAGE
Get a good, intense deep tissue massage. Your lymphatic system needs stimulation to drain fats, toxins and other waste away from your cells.
5. SLEEP WELL
A good night’s sleep will boost the detoxification process and enhance your mental clarity. It is where the magic happens - it’s when your body can do its physical restoration, and when we actually burn fat and metabolise everything which is turn make us happy, healthy and strong. Sleep sleep has the power to nourish your cells and transform your mind and body. If you are exercising well and nurturing your body then you tend to sleep better. However, if you are not having sleeping well, you may need to reset and focus on the foods you eat, the exercise you take and the thoughts you think. Eating a plant rich diet really helps. Try including turkey, brazil nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds in your diet, and increase water intake – if your body is dehydrated, you will experience more muscle cramps.
